Purpose

The Director of Neighboring is responsible for leading and strengthening The Sanctuary’s commitment to express the love of God towards our neighbors here in North Minneapolis and beyond.

General Responsibilities

  • Build upon our current Neighboring (missions) program, while helping to develop new strategies for the future.
  • Continually challenge our church family to think and live missionally in North Minneapolis, the Twin Cities Metro, and beyond
  • Oversee policies, budget, implementation and evaluation of all Neighboring strategy & plans
  • Function as an integral member of the staff team, helping to cast vision, connect and mobilize other ministries in the church to strategically engage the surrounding community
  • Leads and supervises Haven Pantry staff

Specific Responsibilities for Local Missions

  • Mobilize, equip, and support church members in the work of local outreach
  • Help plan and organize local outreach events in and for the community.
  • Serve as a liaison to Love Minneapolis, LLC.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local partners through regular engagement and consistent communication
  • Assess the strengths of our current local partners and develop a comprehensive strategic plan for future partnerships

Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be a passionate Christ-follower who is spiritually mature, trustworthy, humble, and teachable.
  • Commitment to the mission, purpose, vision & core values of the Sanctuary Covenant Church and the Evangelical Covenant Church
  • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred
  • 5+ years of demonstrated relevant experience, paid or volunteer, in a mid-sized church in the city
  • Member of or open to seeking membership at Sanctuary Covenant Church
  • Proven ability to develop teams, delegate responsibility, and empower others on the mission

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess deep love for missions, compassion for the lost, be driven to see our community impacted by the Good News of Jesus Christ
  • Must be a mobilizer with the ability to connect, inspire, and involve our people in the work God is doing throughout the world
  • Experience working with overseas mission partners and/or on the mission field is not required but is a plus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, especially across ethnic, gender and generational lines
  • Strong gift for leadership and ability to develop/coach others
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete tasks and projects within a given timeline
  • Strong aptitude for process improvement, problem solving and creativity
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently as well as within a team structure
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality
  • A learner, someone committed to continual growth and improvement
