Black Centered
Since our beginning, we have been an intentionally multiethnic church, committed to making disciples of people of different ethnic backgrounds. Even so, as a central strategy of being a church in, of and for North Minneapolis, we’ve lived into this commitment: “we will work to ensure that, in every season, there is an intentional and proactive commitment to an agenda for the Christ-centered, holistic empowerment of the African-American community.”
Practically, that means that Sanctuary will root itself in the rich history, traditions, and values of the Black Church as a means of blessing North Minneapolis. In order to do so, we believe that there is particular wisdom in being led by an African-American Lead Pastor who is well versed in the history, traditions, and practices of the Black Church and the broader global, Black Christian traditions. This leader and those with whom they share ministry responsibility must be committed to the ongoing work of learning to lead from this perspective while maintaining a firm commitment to the multiethnic, multicultural identity of our church and the broader Kingdom of God. This Lead Pastor will help ensure that our values and “ways of being” are informed by the Black Christian experience and ripple outward to intentionally include the diverse perspectives and stories of other ethnic and cultural groups, as well.

for First Timers
Starting Point is our first point of connection at Sanctuary. All newcomers are welcome to gather over lunch as we share the story of Sanctuary and next steps toward connection. This is a casual, open space to learn more and ask questions.
Join us every first Sunday after church in the Mosaic room during the school year (down the Family Ministry hallway by the main entrance).

What to Expect
Learn more about our values and our story as a church by visiting the about us page.
What are your gatherings like?
We acknowledge Jesus Christ as the head of our church and fully submit ourselves to His will. In every aspect of our ministry our goal is always to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
What happens when I visit?
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired authoritative and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for Christians. Therefore, we submit ourselves to its teaching, commit ourselves to do what it says, and yield our lives to become what Christ desires for us to be.
What should I bring?
We believe in the power of prayer. Therefore, the ministries and activities our church will be characterized by a reliance on personal and corporate prayer in all areas of our lives and ministry.
How should I dress?
We believe in the Great Commission commanded to us by Jesus Christ and we are committed to reaching unsaved and unchurched people locally, nationally and worldwide. We will use every available Christ-honoring means to pursue, win and disciple the people in our sphere of influence.
Can I invite people to come with?
We believe God ordained the family to glorify him. We are committed to cultivate an atmosphere which promotes spiritual growth within the family by reaching families with the gospel, discipling them in Christ-like character and teaching each family member how to fulfill their God-given role.
What if we didn't answer your question?
We believe God ordained the family to glorify him. We are committed to cultivate an atmosphere which promotes spiritual growth within the family by reaching families with the gospel, discipling them in Christ-like character and teaching each family member how to fulfill their God-given role.
